Going into his fourth Figaro season, Sam Goodchild wasn't expected to come out the other side of his first race of the season, the Solo Maître Coq, at the tail end of the fleet. Sailing too close to the land too late on the first night of the race, Sam was left behind and sailing on his own for the majority of the race - an easy way to fall further behind and drop in morale and motivation in a solo one-design race with no competition to measure against. Finishing a disappointing 28th overall at 07:43am this morning, Sam talks through what happened out on the course.
